Development of a SCAR marker linked with a MYMV resistance gene in mungbean (Vigna radiata L. Wilczek)

Abstract: Yellow mosaic disease (YMD) caused by mungbean yellow mosaic virus (MYMV) is the most important disease of mungbean, causing great yield loss. The present investigation was carried out to study the inheritance and identify molecular markers linked with MYMV resistance gene by using F 1 , F 2 and 167 F 2 : 8 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) developed from the cross 'TM-99-37' (resistant) 9 Mulmarada (susceptible). The F 1 was susceptible, F 2 segregated in 3S:1R phenotypic ratio and RILs segregated in 1S:1R rati… Show more

“…Before the genomic era, several conventional studies suggested the monogenic inheritance of YMD resistance [101][102][103][104][105][106], with modifiers [68,107,108]. The involvement of complementary recessive genes, as well as the effects of digenic inhibitory gene interaction in governing resistance, have also been reported [104,[108][109][110][111][112].…”

“…To limit the effect of major R genes breaking down over time, implementation of genomic selection in breeding programs will help to ensure that small-effect genes are also incorporated into new cultivars (Jannink et al 2010). This will accelerate the breeding cycle by replacing lengthy phenotypic evaluation with (Nair et al 2012;Chen et al 2013;Dhole and Reddy 2013).…”

“…Reports on genetics of mosaic resistance in mungbean varies from monogenic recessive to quantitative in nature (Khan et al, 2007;Dhole and Reddy, 2013;Jain et al, 2013;Kitsanachandee et al, 2013;Mahbubul Alam et al, 2014). In the present study, an effort was made to study genetics of mosaic resistance in mungbean utilizing five diverse parents.…”
