En este trabajo se presenta el desarrollo de la metodología del diseño mecánico para el diseño conceptual de una máquina de pruebas de tensión en elastómeros. Mediante el método del QFD, se identifican los requerimientos del cliente, las especificaciones de ingeniería, así como los objetivos y umbrales de diseño a lograr. Posteriormente, se aplica el método de diseño por funciones para generar una tabla de subfunciones y una tabla morfológica de conceptos que podrían satisfacer cada subfunción. La evaluación de conceptos se realzó mediante las matrices de Pugh. Después, se generaron conceptos de diseño en CAD, donde se integran los diferentes elementos seleccionados previamente. Nuevamente se ocupan las tablas de Pugh para seleccionar el concepto integrado ganador. Se realizó el cálculo analítico del torque requerido en el motor para llevar a cabo la prueba de tensión en elastómeros. Asimismo, se realizó una simulación de esfuerzos, desplazamientos y factor de seguridad, para evaluar la resistencia de los elementos críticos.
