Development of a Photo-Crosslinking, Biodegradable GelMA/PEGDA Hydrogel for Guided Bone Regeneration Materials

Abstract: Gelatin-based hydrogel, which mimics the natural dermal extracellular matrix, is a promising tissue engineering material. However, insufficient and uncontrollable mechanical and degradation properties remain the major obstacles for its application in medical bone regeneration material. Herein, we develop a facile but efficient strategy for a novel hydrogel as guided bone regeneration (GBR) material. In this study, methacrylic anhydride (MA) has been used to modify gelatin to obtain photo-crosslinkable methacry… Show more

“…As shown in Figure 6, the swelling ratio of GPH-1 was 10.09 ± 1.23, GPH-2 was 9.01 ± 0.88, GPH-3 was 7.58 ± 0.92, and GPH-4 was 6.45 ± 0.58. According to our previous research [29], the swelling rate of GP hydrogel with the same composition without nHA is 9.11 ± 0.14, compared with GPH-1, Figure 5. Infrared spectrum of nHA, GelMA-PEGDA, and GelMA-PEGDA-nHA.…”

“…Other possible strategies to prolong the degradation time could be achieved by incorporating other biocompatible components. [23] The higher mechanical property could be further accessed by incorporating bioinorganic materials (such as hydroxyapatite [24] ) as needed.…”

“…PEGDA is suitable as a base material for the hybrid AM process. It is possible to process PEGDA solutions with different water contents in an SLA process as it has already been demonstrated using other polymerization techniques [31,32]. The contour sharpness of the samples is good, especially for the resins with lower viscosities (PEGDA mixed with ultrapure water).…”
