Development of a Novel Two Dimensional Surface Plasmon Resonance Sensor Using Multiplied Beam Splitting Optics

Abstract: A novel two dimensional surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor system with a multi-point sensing region is described. The use of multiplied beam splitting optics, as a core technology, permitted multi-point sensing to be achieved. This system was capable of simultaneously measuring nine sensing points. Calibration curves for sucrose obtained on nine sensing points were linear in the range of 0–10% with a correlation factor of 0.996–0.998 with a relative standard deviation of 0.090–4.0%. The detection limits de… Show more

“…This technique gives excellent sensitivity and, as we will show later in this paper, gives dynamic range comparable to white light interferometry ( Ng et al, 2011 ). High throughput multi-point detection has been achieved by a number of different approaches ( Bardin et al, 2009; Hemmi et al, 2013 ). Early examples using amplitude configurations with CCD cameras had sensitivity of around 10 −5 RIU ( Fu et al, 2004 ).…”

“…For example, Hemmi et al 15 developed this type SPR sensor by utilizing several cubic beam splitters to generate 9 beams for 9 sensing points. However, the incident light intensities of the beams were different due to the fact that beams passed through several beam splitters for the generation of the multi-beams.…”

“…The second type of SPR sensor, based on the Kretschmann configuration, is that beam splitters [15][16][17] or a cylindrical lens array 18 can be used to divide a single mono-chromatic incident light beam into multi-beams. For example, Hemmi et al 15 developed this type SPR sensor by utilizing several cubic beam splitters to generate 9 beams for 9 sensing points.…”
