Development of a Novel Cu(II) Complex Modified Electrode and a Portable Electrochemical Analyzer for the Determination of Dissolved Oxygen (DO) in Water

Abstract: Abstract:The development of an electrochemical dissolved oxygen (DO) sensor based on a novel Cu(II) complex-modified screen printed carbon electrode is reported. The voltammetric behavior of the modified electrode was investigated at different scan rates and oxygen concentrations in PBS (pH = 7). An increase of cathodic current (at about´0.4 vs. Ag/AgCl) with the addition of oxygen was observed. The modified Cu(II) complex electrode was demonstrated for the determination of DO in water using chronoamperometry.… Show more

“…Among the others, the copper complexes were also used as the mediators in electroanalysis, which were associated with improved sensitivity, selectivity and shorter response time [ 14 , 15 , 16 ]. Because of its application in a broad field such as pharmaceutical, textile and food manufacturing industries [ 17 ], medical diagnosis [ 18 ], water treatment [ 19 ], the determination of hydrogen peroxide (further only H 2 O 2 ) is important.…”

“…Due to the fact that it already contains metals, this type of modiication substance is normally used for the determination of organic and inorganic compounds especially via electrocatalysis [27]. Cobalt phthalocyanin has been widely and continuously investigated and applied for the analysis of ascorbic, diethyl stilbestol, and acetaminophen [28].…”

“…On the other hand, the chemical modification of electrodes has become a rapidly growing area of research because of its importance in various domains, such as electro-and photo-catalysis, electro-synthesis, electro-analysis and molecular devices [11][12][13][14][15]. Chronologically, the concept of the modified electrode (ME) has attracted the attention of many researchers as soon as the first prototypes were produced by chemical modification of the metal surfaces.…”
