Development of a new procedure for the determination of captopril in pharmaceutical formulations employing chemiluminescence and a multicommuted flow analysis approach

Abstract: This paper describes a new technique for the determination of captopril in pharmaceutical formulations, implemented by employing multicommuted flow analysis. The analytical procedure was based on the reaction between hypochlorite and captopril. The remaining hypochlorite oxidized luminol that generated electromagnetic radiation detected using a homemade luminometer. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that this reaction has been exploited for the determination of captopril in pharmaceutical pr… Show more

“…As an angiotensin-converting enzyme (inhibitor), Cap, 1-[(2 s )-3-mercapto-2-methylpropionyl]-l-proline, plays a crucial biological role in the treatment of hypertension, coronary heart disease, congestive heart failure, and some types of diseases associated with diabetes. 2224 Thus far, several methods have been proposed for Cap determination, including voltammetry, 25 chemiluminescence, 26 flow injection spectrophotometry, 27 surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy, 28 and mass spectrometry. 29 However, certain drawbacks limited the application of the above methods.…”

“…Taking medicines of captopril level above the accepted value can be harmful to the patient (Jia, et al, 2001). Accordingly, there is a sustaining demand for the development of new analytical procedures for the determination of captopril in pharmaceutical products (Lima, et al, 2016).…”

“…It has been extensively applied in different fields of analytical chemistry [15] , [16] , [17] . Determination of captopril based on CL had been reported previously; however, most of the conventional CL methods involved expensive or poisonous CL reagents such as luminol [18] , [19] , bipyridine ruthenium [20] , and rhodamine 6G [21] . The instability of some CL reagents may cause some errors and reduce the selectivity and sensitivity of the methods [22] .…”
