Development of a new cucumber reference material for pesticide residue analysis: feasibility study for material processing, homogeneity and stability assessment

Abstract: The feasibility of the production of a reference material for pesticide residue analysis in a cucumber matrix was investigated. Cucumber was spiked at 0.075 mg/kg with each of the 15 selected pesticides (acetamiprid, azoxystrobin, carbendazim, chlorpyrifos, cypermethrin, diazinon, (α + β)-endosulfan, fenitrothion, imazalil, imidacloprid, iprodione, malathion, methomyl, tebuconazole and thiabendazole) respectively. Three different strategies were considered for processing the material, based on the physicochemi… Show more

“…In order to verify the homogeneity of the material’s within-unit and between-unit homogeneity and to calculate the uncertainty in heterogeneity of materials, one-factor analysis of variance (one-way ANOVA) was conducted [ 19 21 ]. This statistical tool includes the criterion value ( F value ) and the critical value ( F critic ).…”

“…Pesticides are a large group of heterogeneous chemicals widely used in agriculture as seed preservatives (corn, soybeans and beans), soil and leaf treatment in a variety of crops and orchards, and to control sucking insects [1] , [2] . The growing power of the agricultural sector not only has positive effects, it rather greatly harms the environment and affects human health [3] , [4] . At the environmental level, pesticides cause pollution of underground water sources and are a serious threat to aquatic life [5] , [6] .…”

“…2,3 For RMs applied to genetic testing, the system should be homogeneous and stable, and the RMs should have clear DNA sequence and DNA molecular abundance and other basic characteristics. 4 Genetic RMs provide negative and positive controls for genetic detection to ensure the accuracy and reliability of experimental results. 5 The genetic RM plays an important role in the development of clinical test products, platform testing and calibration, quality control of the detection process, evaluation of test methods, determination of sample values, and reference of experimental repeatability.…”
