Development of a High Energy Density Flexible Zinc-Air Battery

Abstract: This work involved the development of a high energy density flexible zinc-air battery by means of an inexpensive screen-printing technique. A very thin and highly porous cathode gas diffusion layer (GDL) fabricated by screen-printing of carbon black ink promoted oxygen permeability, resulting in a better and more efficient three-phase reaction zone. Moreover, a cathode current collector (printed using nano-silver ink) also functioned as a catalyst layer. The incorporation of this layer enabled the printed batt… Show more

“…This component was attributed to the Fe LMM Auger line as explained before. The same trend was reported in the literature, with a stronger shoulder in the Co 2p 3/2 peak when more Fe 3+ was incorporated into Co(OH) 2 . 17 As such, these results suggest that there is more Fe in Co-Fe when it is deposited onto MnOx.…”

“…The hydrophilic microchannels are usually composed of catalysts and active carbon . To realize the hydrophobic property, hydrophobic agents such as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF), and fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP) are adopted. These bifunctional air electrodes are highly susceptible to carbon corrosion under high oxidative potential under OER conditions, consequently leading to losses of active surface area, uniform distribution of current, and even severe leakage of electrolyte.…”

“…Previously, fabrication of flexible printed zinc‐air batteries using a facile screen printing technique was demonstrated (). In this work, the self‐discharge of flexible printed zinc‐air batteries was investigated and diminished using a thin layer coating of Al2O3 onto the surface of the zinc particles.…”
