Development of a Digital Model of the Egyptian Power Grid for Steady-State and Transient Studies

Abstract: This paper presents the development of a digital model to simulate the Egyptian power grid at 500 kV and 220 kV levels. A professionally available DIgSILENT power system computation package is used. A brief description of the system is given, which includes generating units, transformers, transmission lines and loads. The system includes different types of power plants such as thermal, hydro, and wind. The automatic voltage regulator and speed governor of each unit are simulated in the model. The model is used … Show more

“…This work considers three system operation conditions as follows [11][12][13]; -N-0 or N condition: Normal condition (base case) represents the system with all elements in service. -N-1 condition: Single contingency event that involves the loss of a single system element (generator, transformer, transimission linr,…,etc).…”

“…The Whale Optimization Algorithm, Sine Cosine Algorithm, and Multi-Verse Optimization Algorithm have been developed as multi-objective optimization methods for identifying the optimal mix sizing and positioning RES integrated into IEEE 33-bus and 118-bus test systems, as well as a realistic portion of the Egyptian distribution network [8]. The digital model was developed using the DIgSILENT power system calculation package to simulate the Egyptian power system at 500 kV and 220 kV levels to conduct power system studies such as load flow, short circuit, fault, and stability to evaluate performance and ensure compliance with grid code technical requirements [9].…”
