Development of a Chaff Cloud RCS Measurement Radar at 94.5 GHz

Abstract: The Radar Cross Section (RCS) signature of the chaff cloud in the millimeter wave band is useful in many research fields such as radar countermeasure, target identification and discrimination, and so on. To obtain the RCS of the chaff cloud, practical measurement is an effective method. This paper introduces the design and implementation of a bistatic radar which is used for chaff cloud RCS measurement. The configuration of the radar system and the techniques used in this system, including oversampling, digita… Show more

“…In order not to be detected by radar, radar jamming technology is gradually developed. At present, radar jamming technology, including active and passive jamming methods, mainly reduces the detection ability of radar by forming a strong clutter background or a large number of false target echoes on the radar display [ 4 , 5 ]. However, with the development of radar filtering technology, radar can analyze the amplitude, frequency, waveform, space, polarization and other angles of echoes to obtain target information to avoid interference [ [6] , [7] , [8] , [9] , [10] , [11] , [12] ].…”

“…Zeng et al have experimentally determined the parameters in the PDF of the RCS of the chaff cloud in the S and X band [29]. Zou et al have established a chaff measurement system at a frequency of 94.5 GHz [30]. However, studying the scattering properties of the chaff cloud (corridor) using the presented experimental methods is expensive, especially for the outdoor experiments.…”
