Development of a Belt Pick-up One-row Soybean Cutter

Abstract: This study was carried out to develop a belt pick-up type one-row soybean cutter, using physical properties and production conditions of soybeans. The prototype soybean cutter consisted of 4 parts: cutting part, conveying part, collecting part, and travelling part. The prototype soybean cutter was designed to cut soybeans planted with a row spacing of 600 mm, and at a height of 30 mm from the bed bottom using a disk saw. Through various trials with different peripheral velocities of the disk saw and forward spe… Show more

“…A stability test of the conveying belt was conducted, as shown in Figure 2, when the sesame was transferred while the conveying belt was titled 90°, just like the single-row bean reaper (Jun et al, 2006;Jun et al, 2008;Jun et al, 2010). The stability test investigated the performance of the conveying belt, considering factors such as the distance (D) from the center of the roller (B), and the grabbing clearance between the …”

“…The cutting part was mounted with adjustable wheels on both sides so that cutting height can be adjusted in accordance with the ridge height for cutting the sesame. The diameter of the disc-plate saw blades used was 355 mm, based on the cutting position and peripheral speed (Jun et al, 2010). The peripheral speed of the saw blades can be changed depending on the running speed of the reaper, ranging from 20.4-32.7 m/s.…”

“…In the local area, a single-row pedestrian-type soybean reaper has been developed and is currently being used by the farmers. However, these soybean reapers require massive labor involvement in the threshing process after reaping work (Jun, 2004;Jun et al, 2006;Jun et al, 2008;Jun et al, 2012). Additionally, a double-row pedestriantype reaper (wheel type) (Jun et al, 2011) has been developed, but has failed to commercialize.…”

“…Furthermore, South Korea's rice growing area is rapidly declining amid a dwindling consumption of rice. To counteract the trend, since 2002, the South Korean government has implemented campaigns and policies that encourage local farmers to grow soybeans, so as to redefine soybeans as a rice-substituting crop and to help increase the self-sufficiency rate for local soybean production (Jun et al, 2006). Most local soybean growers are small-scale with farm land of 1 ha or under.…”
