“…The odour-bait (Coppedge et al, 1978), later termed SWASS (screwworm adult suppression system), originally consisted of a small cardboard cylinder containing a toxic feeding-bait (sugar, dried blood, white glue and dichlorvos) together with a wick of 'swormlure-2' (a mixture of 11 chemicals known to attract C. hominivorax, Coppedge et al, 1977). “…Trapping for the control of important dipteran pest species can be an effective approach under specific circumstances (Haniotakis et al 1991(Haniotakis et al , 1986Prokopy et al 1996Prokopy et al , 2000Broumas et al 2002). As a component of the eradication of the screwworm fly, Cochliomyia hominivorax, from North America, trapping using insecticide was evaluated and shown to reduce fly populations by about 65-85% (Coppedge et al 1978). In Australia, between 1932and 1934, Mackerras et al (1936 indicated that intensive trapping could reduce both the abundance of Lucilia cuprina and the incidence of strike by over 50%.…”
