Development and Validation of the Mini-Osteoporosis Quality of Life Questionnaire (OQLQ) in Osteoporotic Women with Back Pain due to Vertebral Fractures. Osteoporosis Quality of Life Study Group

Abstract: The objective of the study was to evaluate a shortened osteoporosis quality of life questionnaire (OQLQ) in osteoporotic women with back pain due to vertebral fractures. From the longer 30-item OQLQ (four to nine items per domain) we created the mini-OQLQ by choosing the two items with the highest impact in each of five domains (symptoms, physical function, activities of daily living, emotional function, leisure). We administered the OQLQ, the Sickness Impact Profile, the SF-36 and the Brief Pain Index to pati… Show more

“…Since the sum of physical, social, and mental functioning determines quality of life; its assessment plays an increasingly important role in clinical studies and particularly as an outcome measure of clinical trials. Several instruments for measuring the quality of life of patients with OP have been developed [3][4][5], but none of these were validated in Arabic language. One of these tools is the QUALEFFO that has been developed by a working party of the European Foundation for OP for patients with VF [6,7].…”

“…While clinicians and researchers may apply a variety of questionnaires to assess health-related quality of life (12)(13)(14)(15), the length of these instruments and the time they take to complete may limit their use. Consideration of greater efficiency, decreased burden on the respondent and clinical feasibility has led to the development of shorter questionnaires (16 The score for each item ranges from 1 to 5.…”
