Development and Validation of a Multivariable Predictive Model for Mortality of COVID-19 Patients Demanding High Oxygen Flow at Admission to ICU: AIDA Score

Abstract: Introduction. Risk stratification is an important aspect of COVID-19 management, especially in patients admitted to ICU as it can provide more useful consumption of health resources, as well as prioritize critical care services in situations of overwhelming number of patients. Materials and Methods. A multivariable predictive model for mortality was developed using data solely from a derivation cohort of 160 COVID-19 patients with moderate to severe ARDS admitted to ICU. The regression coefficients from the fi… Show more

“…Thiamine, or Vitamin B1, is an essential nutrient with many health benefits, especially protecting the brain and heart [33,34,35]. Time will tell whether vitamin supplementation, especially thiamine, has an impact on winning the covid pandemic [36]. This is an opportunity for medical workers and ordinary people, to be reminded of its importance, natural sources and possible supplementation.…”

“…Recently, a newly devised multivariable predictive model called the AIDA score was validated in a cohort of 304 patients with SARS-CoV-2 admitted to the intensive care unit in Serbia [ 13 ]. This score assigned 5 points for patients with low serum albumin levels and 1 point for elevated IL-6 levels, D-dimer levels, and age of >65 years.…”

“…A small study carried out by Italian researchers confirmed the presence of the viral genome and proteins in cardiac samples of COVID-19 patients [8]. Various predictive scores have been developed to stratify patients with increased risk of developing the severe form of the disease [9]. Different laboratory parameters, including cytokines, are marked as important predictors of infection severity and mortality, and are responsible for hyperinflammatory syndrome and subsequently multi-organ failure [10].…”
