Development and usefulness of an immunochromatographic device to detect antibodies for rapid diagnosis of human gnathostomiasis

Abstract: Background: Human gnathostomiasis is a serious tropical disease, which is often overlooked. There is an urgent need to improve tools to aid the potential diagnosis of the disease in endemic regions. To overcome this, we produced the immunochromatographic test (ICT) kit for a rapid and simple diagnosis of human gnathostomiasis. Findings: The recombinant protein (named rGslic18) was applied to ICT kit as the antigen. The diagnostic value of ICT kit was evaluated using serum samples from parasitologically proven … Show more

“…13 − 15 The immunochromatographic method is regarded as a rapid and convenient method widely used in a variety of diseases, including infectious diseases. 16 , 17 Its principle is simple and easily accepted by doctors; these advantages make it especially suitable for a serious epidemic situation. In the current study, a sensitive immunofluorescent assay method was developed for rapid detection of special IgM and IgG of COVID-19 in human serum or plasma within 10 min.…”

“…There are two forms of rapid tests (lateral-flow and flow-through), with the advantages of low-cost, speed and convenience. A lateral-flow immunochromatographic test (ICT) for gnathostomiasis, with high sensitivity (93.75%) and specificity (97.01%), has recently been developed using a recombinant protein (rGslic18) as the antigen (Janwan et al ., 2016). In the present study, the DIGFA rapid test, in flow-through format, was developed and evaluated for gnathostomiasis.…”

“…The most known format consists of immobilizing an antigen (specific for a given pathogen) in the analytical zone and labeling an immunoglobulin-binding reagent-anti-species antibodies, bacterial immunoglobulin-binding proteins (protein A, protein G), etc. [ 24 , 25 , 26 , 27 , 28 , 29 ]. The presence of specific antibodies to the pathogen in the sample leads to the formation of a detectable complex of immobilized antigen molecules, specific antibodies and labeled immunoglobulin-binding protein ( Figure 1 A).…”
