Forty faculty members from eight schools participated in a year-long National Faculty Development Program (NFDP), conducted in 2012-2013, aimed at developing faculty knowledge and skills for interprofessional education (IPE). The NFDP included two live conferences. Between conferences, faculty teams implemented self-selected IPE projects at their home institutions and participated in coaching and peer-support conference calls. This paper describes program outcomes. A mixed methods approach was adopted. Data were gathered through online surveys and semi-structured interviews. The study explored whether faculty were satisfied with the program, believed the program was effective in developing knowledge and skills in designing, implementing and evaluating IPE, and planned to continue newlyimplemented IPE and faculty development. Peer support and networking were two of the greatest perceived benefits. Further, this multi-institutional program appears to have facilitated early organizational change by bringing greater contextual understanding to assumptions made at the local level that in turn could influence hidden curricula and networking. These findings may guide program planning for future faculty development to support IPE.

Background/Objective: The number of veterans and their families seeking healthcare and support within civilian communities is increasing worldwide. There is a need for healthcare providers to provide sensitive, comprehensive care for veterans with both physical and behavioral health conditions. Many civilian providers are unfamiliar with veterans' issues and need training on military culture and combat experiences in order to provide compassionate, high quality care. An interprofessional (IPE) course to increase health professional students' understanding of military culture and the associated health problems of veterans was implemented and evaluated.

; §For complete list of contributors, see information below.Professional preparation in athletic training has grown from modest roots based in physical education in the 1960s to its emergence as a recognized health profession today. The profession has long embraced interprofessional practice (IPP), but many times has not been included in discussions held at the institutional, governmental, and international levels. As a result, the concept of interprofessional education (IPE), which has been an emphasis in medicine, nursing, and allied health since the 1990s, has not been a part of most athletic training programs. Investigations into IPE and IPP in athletic training have found that the concepts were misunderstood by athletic training educators because of a lack of common language and appreciation for their role in the future of health care. In 2012, the National Athletic Trainers' Association Executive Committee for Education authored ''Future Directions in Athletic Training'' to make recommendations regarding the evolution and promotion of IPE in athletic training. A primary part of this strategy was to develop a paper regarding IPE and IPP in athletic training to provide the profession and other stakeholders with background information and present model pedagogy that could be implemented in professional athletic training programs. The resulting document was created using a structured process that included a work group of authors from a wide range of settings.

Abstract: The IPFS can be used in facilitator development as a concise guide to IPE facilitation skills and for assessment and further enhancement of IP facilitation competencies. Further study is required to assess the scale in diverse settings, with preservice learners, and over the longer term.
