Many of the medications marketed as traditional herbal medicines have unquestionably been used for a very long time. Hands have always been the dominant source of transmission of infection to patients. Thus, encouraging "personal hygiene" is the main objective of developing a herbal hand wash. The current study's goal was to develop a formulation of polyherbal handwash employing methanolic extracts of dried leaves of Azadirachta indica, Ocimum gratissimum, and Coriandrum sativum. Other ingredients entailed lemon juice, aloe vera, lavender oil, HPMC, triethanolamine, sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS), glycerine, and methylparaben. Four batches of hand wash formulations were prepared, and each batch was tested for stability, appearance, colour, grittiness, pH, viscosity, foam height, and other physical characteristics. Using the agar well diffusion method, the anti-microbial effectiveness of the prepared polyherbal hand wash was tested on a variety of bacteria, including Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeroginosa, Salmonella typhi, Aspergillus niger, and Candida albicans. The results demonstrated that manufactured herbal handwash formulations, particularly F3, displayed a prominent zone of inhibition in comparison to standard commercial handwash, indicating that the extract of these phytoconstituents may be employed to manufacture handwash with antimicrobial properties. As a result, the research shows that the herbal handwash formulation is analogous to commercial handwash in reducing the amount of bacteria on hands and may be used as a replacement handwash made from natural sources without experiencing any undesirable effects.

Background: Herbal medicines and food products have extensively been looked upon for decades due to their biocompatible nature and the least adverse effects. At the same pace, plant-based cosmetics and toiletries are capturing the market due to their eco-friendly nature and compatibility with human skin. The marketed soaps and hand washes are based on toxic fatty acid salts, surfactants, and perfumes that are not only harmful to the skin but to the environment as well. The commonly used surfactant in soaps and hand washes, sodium lauryl sulfate makes the skin dry and sensitive. Moreover, the water getting polluted by SLS when entering the water bodies, makes the aquatic life vulnerable. So, it becomes important to formulate such hand washes that are biocompatible, without compromising their cleansing action and anti-microbial properties. This piece of work explores the formulation of an anti-bacterial hand wash having a good cleansing action to serve the purpose of maintaining personal hygiene in a biocompatible and eco-friendly way. Results: Herbal hand wash gel was prepared and evaluated using plant extracts, having potent anti-microbial action (minimum inhibitory concentration of 1.4cm and 3.7 cm for S. aureus and P.aeruginosa respectively). Conclusion: Formulation of plant based hand wash products by replacing the synthetic surfactants with natural saponins and antimicrobial extracts can be useful for regular use on skin, while reducing the toxic load on environment as well.

The phytochemical contents of the Glochidionlittorale Blume has not been studied enough as compared to other related medicinal plants, but traditional usage of this tropical shrub suggests the presence of beneficial pharmacological properties. To assess the presence of common phytochemical constituents as well as to determine the total phenolic and total flavonoid contents in G. littorale fruit extracts. Two different solvents (ethanol and ethyl acetate), phytochemicals from G. littorale fruits were extracted and used to assess their antioxidative and free radical scavenging properties. Ethanolic extract possesses higher amount of TPC and TFC as compared to ethyl acetate extract. To our knowledge, this is the first systematic study on screening bioactive compounds in G. littorale fruits. This tropical shrub might be a good source of natural antioxidants and beneficial phytochemicals.
