Development and Prospect of Wireless Power Transfer Technology Used to Power Unmanned Aerial Vehicle

Abstract: Recently, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) have been widely used in the military and civil fields. However, the battery power is a key factor that restricts the operation range of the UAV. Using wireless power transfer (WPT) technology to power UAVs can improve the endurance of UAVs and enhance their maneuverability and flexibility. In this paper, the WPT technology is divided into three types: near-field WPT technology, far-field WPT technology and solar-powered UAV. The developments, challenges and prospects o… Show more

“…An indispensable stage in IPT circuits is the resonant tank, also known as resonant network, which is an electrical circuit designed with capacitors and inductors which is capable of storing electrical energy and oscillating when it is operating at the resonant frequency. The circuit has zero reactance during the resonance condition, allowing the maximum transfer of power from a power supply to an electrical load with high efficiency [12,13].…”

“…Wireless power transfer (WPT) techniques have been improved during the development of various applications, such as home appliances, electric vehicles, and unmanned aerial vehicles [1][2][3]. Furthermore, in the biomedical field, WPT plays a growing role in wirelessly energizing implantable biomedical devices (IBMD) [4] and biomedical sensors (BMS) [5].…”

“…Therefore, in recent years, many countries have developed rapidly stratospheric solar-powered UAV. The Airbus Zephyr S completed 18 consecutive days of flight in 2021, China's Qimingxing-50 solarpowered UAV cruised at an altitude of more than 20,000 meters, and the Phasa-35 developed by Britain's BAE Systems and Prismatic can carry a mission payload of 15kg [1].…”
