Development and Optimization of Acyclovir Loaded Mucoadhesive Microspheres by Box – Behnken Design

Abstract: The grail of the study was to design, develop and characterize sustained release mucoadhesive microspheres of acyclovir and to optimize the drug release profile using response surface methodology by applying Box–Behnken design (BBD) which was equipped with three levels and three factors. Microspheres were prepared from Methocel K15M and Ethocel Standard 45 Premium using the emulsification solvent evaporation technique. The independent factors were the amounts of Methocel K15M (X1), amount of Ethocel Standard 4… Show more

“…Statistical methods such as RSM can be worked to capitalize on the production of a special substance by optimization of operational factors. Of late, for preparation optimization, the RSM, using an appropriate design of experiments, has become widely used [23]. In contrast to predictable methods, the communication among procedure variables can be resolute by statistical techniques [24].…”

“…Statistical approaches such as the RSM can be employed to maximize the production of a special substance by optimizing the operational factors. Recently, the RSM alongside proper design of experiments has been extensively used for formulation optimization [26]. In contrast to conventional methods, the interaction among process variables can be determined using statistical techniques [27].…”

“…Clarithromycin (CM) containing microspheres were prepared by modification of emulsion and solvent evaporation method. 15 The microspheres preparation in three step process, in the first step solvent dispersed drug solution was mixed with previously aqueous reconstituted International Journal of Pharmaceutical Investigation, Vol 10, Issue 3, Jul-Sep, 2020 beta Cyclodextrin (βCD) solutions was propelled until the removal of solvent from the drug solution. Chitosan solubilised in 0.1% acetic acid solution also kept aside.…”
