Abstract: To investigate the hysteretic behavior of an X-shaped metal damper (XMD) with an oblique angle, cyclic loading tests were carried out on nine specimens, including two XMDs without buckling-restrained devices, four XMDs with stiffening ribs, and three XMDs with cover plates as references. The test results showed that the oblique angle could effectively increase the stiffness, strength, and energy dissipation of the XMD.
