Development and Equality: UN’s Effort with Least Developed Countries (LDC)

Abstract

The United Nations recognizes that Least Developed Countries (LDCs) are a category of States considered to be highly disadvantaged in their development process, for structural, historical, and geographical reasons. Facing more than other countries the risk of deeper poverty and of remaining underdeveloped. More than 75% of the LDC population still lives in poverty. Thus, these countries can still be characterized by their vulnerability to external economic shocks, natural and man-made disasters and communicable diseases, and great inequality. In this way, it can be said that LDCs need the highest degree of attention from the international community and support from partnerships such as the United Nations efforts to promote development and equity.
