Development and characterization of niosomal gel for topical delivery of benzoyl peroxide

Abstract: Benzoyl peroxide (BPO) is generally considered as first line treatment against acne. Low water solubility and formation of larger clusters and limited skin permeation upon topical application necessitates the application of high amount of drug for desired action which leads to induction of skin irritation. In the present study, we developed BPO-loaded niosomal formulation to improve its permeation through skin. The niosomes were further loaded in the carbopol gel to improve contact time. The results of the ski… Show more

“…However, lipophilic ion pair technique can enhance epidermal penetration. In this technique, oppositely charged species forms pair and neutralize the charge as well as dissociates in viable aqueous epiderms and realesing parent molecule (Goyal et al, 2013b). The coacervate permeates in skin as it diffuses or dissociates and behaves like ion pair (Goyal et al, 2013a).…”

“…Natural archaeal lipids extracted from representative archaea organisms that cover the scope of the archaeal lipid structures. Several research groups cultivated extracted and purified total polar lipids (TPL) from methanogens, halophiles and thermoacidophiles (Goyal et al, 2013b). Archaea were grown under opmental living environmental conditions before undergoing extensive organic solvent extraction.…”

“…Chitosan (CTS) is the naturally occurring aminopolysaccharides (Goyal et al, 2013) and widely used in pharmaceutics due to its excellent biocompatibility and biodegradability (Chaudhary et al, 2014;Gagandeep et al, 2014). This article contains a novel hepatic drug delivery system using GA-chitosan as the carrier for delivering atorvastatin by reducing its toxic levels in blood and direct targeting to liver.…”
