Development and Characterization of Mesoporous Silicate–LiCl Composite Desiccants for Solid Desiccant Cooling Systems

Abstract: Solid composite desiccants are fabricated by impregnating LiCl into pores of SBA-15 and MCM-41 mesoporous silicates. In the study, characteristics including textural properties and equilibrium and dynamic water sorption were tested and analyzed. Research on nitrogen adsorption suggested that because of the impregnated salt, composite desiccants were different from pure silicates. Sorption isotherms were measured and simulated based on Polanyi potential theory. Composite samples had water uptake much higher tha… Show more

“…Different from the Au cathode, which has an average particle diameter around 0.5–0.8 μm, the Pt black used in this study has an average primary particle diameter of 6.5 nm, which suggests a mesoporous electrode structure. As shown in the measurements of carbon particles with mesoporous structure by Zheng et al ., the presence of mesopore will lead to a shift of condensation of a porous material towards RH conditions much lower than 100 % due to capillary condensation. The shape of the isotherms suggests unrestricted multilayer water adsorption on the Pt black and negligible hysteresis due to capillary condensation in mesopores.…”

“…Dehumidification capacity is one of the crucial performance indexes in a DCHE system, which can be affected by average humidity removal during an effective dehumidification process. Average humidity removal and dehumidification capacity can be calculated by in which D avg means the average humidity removal, g/g; Q d means the dehumidification capacity, g/h; m a means the mass flow rate of inlet air, g/s; w ai and w ao mean the inlet and outlet air humidity ratios, respectively, g/g; and t d means the effective dehumidification time (please refer to ref for detailed information), s.…”
