Development and Applications of a Stage Stacking Procedure

Abstract: The preliminary design of multistage axial compressors in gas turbine engines is typically accomplished with mean-line methods. These methods, which rely on empirical correlations

“…By inserting the equations (29)(30)(31), and the result in equation ( 30), the deviation angle derivative (dδ) for a single error of input parameters ðdi,dMa in , dðC ex =C in ÞÞ is calculated as a function of exponents ðx1, x2, y1, and y2Þ and order of polynomial function (n). It is noted that, for solving the multi-objective optimization problem in the MATLAB software, the Genetic Algorithm method, described in the work of Esmaieli et al, 44 is utilized.…”

“…Being concerned about the deviation in results of the compressor mean-line models, especially in off-design conditions, some attempts have been made in recent years to revise the correlations for performance parameters of axial compressor stages. In one of these attempts, Kulkarni et al 29 developed a one-dimensional model considering a new expression for the blockage factor. In their work, the CFD simulation results were used to generate the correlations for performance parameters of the axial compressor stages.…”
