Development and Application of Direct Data Capture for Monitoring Medication Compliance in Clinical Trials

Abstract: ObjectivesThe monitoring of medication compliance in clinical trials is important but labor intensive. To check medication compliance in clinical trials, a system was developed, and its technical feasibility evaluated.MethodsThe system consisted of three parts: a management part (clinical trial center database and a developed program), clinical trial investigator part (monitoring), and clinical trial participant part (personal digital assistant [PDA] with a barcode scanner). The system was tested with 20 parti… Show more

“…These studies targeted a range of demographics, including age, from middle school students (mean age: 12) ( Belton et al, 2013 ) to older adults (between 55 and 70 years old) ( Muller et al, 2016 ); and location, Ireland ( Belton et al, 2013 ), Malaysia ( Muller et al, 2016 ), Taiwan ( Chen et al, 2017 ; Chen et al, 2016 ), Korea ( Kim et al, 2015 ), and the United States ( Shaw et al, 2013 ). Four of the studies were randomized control trials (RCTs) ( Belton et al, 2013 ; Chen et al, 2017 ; Kim, 2017 ; Muller et al, 2016 ) and the rest were quasi-experimental studies ( Chen et al, 2016 ; Shaw et al, 2013 ).…”

“…Reliable application of biotherapeutics in a flexible care setting depends on adequate user training and education and mandates treatment initiation under professional supervision (Highlights of Prescribing Information (HPI) Humira ® , Hizentra ® , Kesimpta ® : United Stated Food and Drug Administration 2022a). Establishing convenient drug delivery schemes and electronic data capturing tools permit physicians to make accurate treatment decisions while their patient is dosed outside of a controlled environment (Eun-Young 2017;El-Sappagh et al 2019;Sebastian et al 2019). Especially, if home dosing is facilitated with mechanisms to collect "patient-provided information, " such data could have the potential to reduce payer's uncertainty around adherence and to complement value-based reimbursement models.…”

“…With RFID they have to get specifics during taking tablets. This method used the wifi model and certain tags.In [13] authors aimed to understand the roles of healthcare & human interaction connected to ADRs (adverse drug reactions). Every application mentions the significance of the architecture and reporting for ADRs.…”

“…In [18][19][20], authors presented many DL networks to detect deceases.Adverse events (AE), which are one of the main triggers of death and illness, are a big problem for health care [21]. For AE cases, there had been a recorded rise of 222% between 2006 and 2014 [13], according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Indeed, since 1997, that FDA has registered volumes of all AE cases almost 5 times [13].…”
