Developing Entrepreneurial Thinking in Engineering Students by Utilizing Integrated Online Modules

Abstract: An approach to develop entrepreneurial thinking skills in engineering students by integrating online modules into existing courses is described. Eighteen online modules covering a variety of topics will be developed. Developers for the modules are selected by reviewing proposals submitted in response to a broadly distributed request for proposals. Developers undergo extensive training before embarking upon module development. Students will complete each standalone module outside of class hours. Instructors who… Show more

“…A series of related papers on the development of e-learning modules on entrepreneurial mindset are another example of an instructional strategy relating to failure. A team from the University of New Haven (Harichandra, et al, 2015;Erdil et al, 2016) developed a set of online e-learning modules intended to help students attain the knowledge, skills, and characteristics needed to have the entrepreneurial mindset. One of the 18 modules focuses on learning from failure; the module is intended to be implemented in a freshman project planning and development course.…”

“…The University of New Haven developed a series of 18 online learning modules as part of their effort to develop the entrepreneurial mindset of their engineering and computer science students [18]. The university's plan is to integrate the modules into core engineering, and applied science courses and does not plan to use the modules outside off core classes.…”

“…Since students complete the modules outside of class time, faculty do not need to give up class time to cover the entrepreneurial content. The design, integration, and assessment of the modules has been the content of several papers [3][4][5][6][7][8].…”
