Developing Correctional Manpower

Abstract: Correction faces a difficult task in recruiting the enormous numbers of additional manpower it so desperately needs. It must compete with other institutions in attracting professional person nel and must enlarge and improve its line custodial staff. Three general ways to deal with the problem are to (1) reduce the rate of staff turnover; (2) provide intensive in-service training and upgrading programs; and (3) bring in new people.
