This study contributes to the literature by applying goal-setting theory and the job demands-resources model to investigate how motivational processes influence students' proactive career behaviours. We tested four hypotheses using structural equation modelling and moderation/ mediation analysis using a nested model approach; 432 undergraduates from 21 UK universities participated in this cross-sectional study. The results showed that students higher in mastery approach had greater perceived employability mediated by two proactive career behaviours (skill development and network building). Students' career goal commitment was associated with all four proactive career behaviours (career planning, skill development, career consultation and network building). Students' academic and employment workloads did not negatively impact their proactive career behaviours. University tutors and career services should therefore encourage students to set challenging career goals that reflect mastery approach.

Abstract-Social network sites (SNSs) have become strategic networking tools for employment-related activities. They shape professional identity and influence professional and career practices, providing new paths for career, employment and recruitment processes. Students' professional identity is influenced by their career management and work experience. There is a lack of research on the use of SNSs for students' on-line career management competences. A survey was conducted to examine students' attitudes regarding the use of SNSs for career management competences and professional identity development. The student's attitudes revealed career control, networking for learning, career reflection, self-presentation and work exploration as predictors for students' actual use of SNSs for career management and professional identity development. For the career competences the main influencing predictors were found to be students' beliefs that SNSs support work exploration, processes of self-presentation and career control. For professional identity development, the main influencing predictors were students' beliefs that SNSs support career control and students' engagement in professional events through networking for learning. Findings could contribute to understanding and facilitation of the SNS-related career management competences.

Social entrepreneurs have, in several ways, been regarded as engines of intense socioeconomic development. They are also famous for intervening with projects for society's problems that are often either inadvertently ignored or inadequately managed by mainstream society. The issue of graduate employability has gained increased tension around the world especially in emerging markets such as South Africa. Currently, suggestions are that considering the avowed contribution of social entrepreneurs, it may be worthwhile to start examining how they can assist with graduate employability in South Africa. This paper, therefore, takes an exploratory yet focused scrutiny of the social entrepreneurship ecosystem to find out the likelihood of social entrepreneurs participating in programs that prepare students for the workplace, thereby reducing graduate unemployability. This is a conceptual paper that has benefitted from an extensive review of literature. Conclusions are drawn therefrom to suggest that opportunities exist for social entrepreneurs to provide practical, project-based learning opportunities for college and university students so that by the time they graduate, they have attained reasonable work-readiness levels that stand them in good stead for employment. While the authors propose an intensive empirical study of the subject matter, we are equally positive that this paper may be used to advance the current platforms of engagement of the role of social entrepreneurs or grow innovative methods that provide graduates with a better chance to be successful in the working environment. In short, this paper calls for sustained discussions on how social entrepreneurs can improve graduate employability.
