Purpose The inception of mobile financial services (MFSs) has positively provoked economic growth and productivity, nonetheless, it has pessimistically caused an upward surge in cybersecurity threat. Customers are progressively becoming conscious of some of the threat and several of them now shun away from some suspicious activities over the internet as a form of protection. This study aims to explore the factors that influence users’ to adopt security behaviour. Design/methodology/approach A synthesis of theories – Self-efficacy and technology threat avoidance theories – was used to examine the security behaviour of users of MFSs. Data was gathered from 530 students in Ghana using convenience sampling technique. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistics, inferential statistics and structural equation model. Findings Outcome of the investigation indicate that both mastery experience and verbal persuasion have substantial effect on the avoidance motivation of MFSs users. It was, however, found that emotional state and vicarious experience of users do not influence their avoidance motivation. Also, it was established that avoidance motivation is a positive prognosticator of avoidance behaviour. Practical implications Understanding the security behaviour of MFS users will help the operators to outline strategies to sustain the successes achieved. Originality/value Studies on user security behaviour are rare, especially in sub Saharan Africa, thus, this study will contribute to extant literature by adding a new dimension of user security behaviour.

Electronic government adoption in developing countries: the case of the Indonesian electronic procurement system

Studies conducted in the disciplines of public administration, sociology, psychology and information systems have examined the factors supporting electronic government (e-Government) adoption. Such research is vital because-no matter how technically sophisticated an e-Government system-it will be useless if it is not adopted. For government procurement processes, electronic procurement (e-Procurement) is believed to enhance efficiency and transparency as well as reduce the incidence of corruption in these processes. Unfortunately, however, many developing countries that face the problem of public sector corruption have failed to successfully adopt e-Government systems, including e-Procurement. The lack of success in e-Government adoption has stimulated the interest of scholars to identify the key predictors of e-Government adoption in developing countries. As a contribution to this growing body of knowledge, the present study examines the possible predictors of e-Government adoption by using Indonesia's e-Procurement system as a case study. Indonesia was chosen as the case study because it is a developing country facing the problem of public sector corruption and because an e-Procurement system was introduced for use in government agencies in 2005.The literature presents several conceptual models that have been developed to understand the predictors of e-Government use. Generally, these conceptual models apply to pre-adoption settings (e.g. the technology acceptance model (TAM), unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT), and technology-organisation-environment model (TOE)) where they identify the factors relating to the take-up of a new technology, or to continued use settings (e.g. the expectation confirmation model for information technology (ECM-IT)) where they identify the factors relating to the continued use of a technology. The predictors in these models have been validated by prior studies in various settings. However, there is a growing concern about the use of model predictors without adjusting them to take account of different contexts. At least two types of adjustment to context should be considered: first, the models are often developed for business settings, but government procedures and needs are different; second, the models have mostly been developed in the context of developed rich nations, not poorer developing worlds, and with this come different cultural attitudes to technology and educational and infrastructure levels. The present study is significant in that it tests the use of a pre-existing e-Procurement system by government agencies in a developing country. Traditional ways of managing information technology (IT) service providers are no longer applicable as companies use more and more services provisioned in the cloud. Therefore, organizations are looking for new ways to manage their relationship with cloud providers. The shift from IT-as-a-product to IT-as-a-service puts clients in a continued dependency on cloud service providers (CSPs), making provider management a critical factor for companies’ success. In this paper, we (1) identify cloud-specific challenges in managing CSPs, (2) develop a corresponding process framework for CSP management, and (3) discuss and extend this framework. Our final cloud management framework comprises ten processes for effective CSP management based on a literature study and twelve expert interviews. Furthermore, we unpack three major contingency factors, i.e., client–provider ratio, specificity, and service delivery model, which influence the reasonability and configuration of the cloud management processes. Drawing on two specific cases from our interview study, we explicate the contingency factors’ influence. Thus, our paper contributes to cloud sourcing research by deepening the understanding of client–provider relationships and by introducing a viable CSP management instrument contingent on three salient factors of cloud service provisioning.
