Coursebooks have an essential function in language instruction since they function as not only the guidance for both educators and learners in conducting learning programs but also the primary source of learning materials and learning tasks. Nevertheless, language learning program provides an imbalanced opportunity to develop students’ language skills equally. This study sought to analyze the balance of the learning tasks in New Total English Coursebooks in terms of the four strands. The research question in this study was “From the perspective of the Four Strands, what is the frequency distribution of learning tasks in New Total English Coursebooks?” In order to answer the research question in this study, the researchers used content analysis. The total of 637 learning tasks were analyzed in this study from three coursebooks. In selecting the samples of learning tasks, the researchers applied stratified random sampling. The findings showed that the highest frequency of strand found was meaning-focused input with 28.08%. The fluency development strand occupies 25.79% and language-focused learning occupies 23.57% of the whole learning tasks. Lastly, the meaning-focused output had the lowest frequency with 22.54%. In conclusion, the coursebooks are proven to provide balanced distributions of the four strands. The findings of this study suggest that English instructors use the coursebooks in classrooms as they provide equal balance of the four strands.

Arabic is a very important communication language in the world, especially among Muslims. There has been a lot of research related to Arabic language teaching, so it is necessary to analyze these trends. This systematic literature review aims to analyze trends in Arabic language teaching in the world (2008-2023), so that it can become a reference for research and development of current and future Arabic language teaching themes. Article searches were carried out in the Scopus database. Data is saved in *CSV and *RIS formats, synchronized with Mendeley and visualized with VOS-viewer. We used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) model to determine truly appropriate articles (inclusion), resulting in 21 appropriate articles. The trend of publications related to the Arabic language teaching theme shows that interesting. We discuss year trends, research methods used, dominant authors, most cited authors, and the relationship between keywords (there are four main keywords). Discussions were also held regarding the dominant author's country of origin, collaboration, and the number of authors per article. We formulated five Arabic Language Teacher Profiles based on a study of the 21 articles. It is recommended that Arabic language teaching research and publications need to be promoted so that it becomes global attention and international collaboration occurs. We also suggest that future researchers can focus more on the assessment and evaluation aspects.

This research aims to: 1) obtain an overview of portfolio assessment planning for English language learning at MAN Insan Cendekia Jambi, 2) describe the implementation of portfolio assessment for English language learning at MAN Insan Cendekia Jambi. 3) describe the advantages and obstacles of portfolio assessment in English language learning at MAN Human Cendekia Jambi. The approach used in this research is qualitative research. The results of the research show that portfolio assessment planning in English language learning at MAN Insan Cendekia Jambi includes several components, such as: educator preparation, consideration of the values that will be applied, and determining appropriate learning material. Apart from that, the assessment also includes students' affective aspects which aim to form good student attitudes in accordance with the Islamic boarding school concept. The implementation of portfolio assessment in English language learning also experiences obstacles, namely limited time, different student characteristics, and institutional support regarding portfolio assessment that is not yet well systemized. Portfolio assessment in English language learning at MAN Insan Cendekia Jambi includes: evidence of thought processes, quality of activities, and diversity of approaches.The implementation of portfolio assessment in English lessons at MAN Insan Cendekia Jambi shows the school's commitment to improving students' learning experience holistically. This research has the potential to provide new insights regarding the effectiveness of alternative evaluation methods in the context of English language education.
