Developed Method for Spectroscopic Studies of Viscous Samples

Abstract: In this work, the trace elements in phosphoric acid, which has been considered an example of the proposed viscous sample, were measured accurately by a developed method. Samples were diluted to decrease matrix and background interferences. Quantitative analysis of As, Ca, Cd, Cu, Fe, Hg, K, Mg, Na, Pb, and Zn were carried out using flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). A comparison with inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) proves the validity of the developed method. The cha… Show more

“…The observed difference in cross-sectional profile was considered to be due to the viscosity changes between these two concentrations. The viscosity of 40% (≈3.8) H 3 PO 4 is about three times greater than that of the 10% (≈1.3) etchant [ 22 , 23 ], which may significantly the influence on the etchant flow inside a narrow groove. For the thermochemical reaction to be sustained, fresh etchant should be continuously supplied into the groove.…”

“…For elemental quantitative analysis of the extracted essential oils, 5 μl of the oil from the total sample volume (~1 ml) and 5 μl of 0.1 mg L −1 of Ga solution were deposited on siliconized quartz reflectors and dried on a hot plate at 50°C for 2–3 weeks depending on the drying time. The long evaporation time of the essential oil droplet is primarily due to its high viscosity, whereas the direct analysis of the viscous sample is a challenge . The Ga was used as an internal standard to calculate the concentration of elements of interest using the following equation: Ci=CISNiNISSi where C i is the concentration of the analyte, C IS is the concentration of the internal standard, N i is the net area of the analyte peak, N IS is the net area of the internal standard element, and Si is the relative sensitivity of the analyte.…”

“…It was mentioned that the number of vehicles in Jeddah city reached 1.5 Million [32]. In addition, PGE and its compositions are usually used as a chemical modifier in graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry [33][34][35][36][37][38], which may increase the concentration of PGE in the ambient air.…”
