The global climate crisis deepening rapidly and turning into a severe security problem requires a global struggle. In this regard, the United Nations has initiated comprehensive negotiations for a long time, but the process has not achieved the desired level of success. Behind this failure lie neoliberalism and its institutions that dominate the global economic system. The aviation sector with rapid growth potential develops around the aggressive strategies of neoliberalism. The developments in the aviation sector naturally affect the climate negatively at an increasing rate. In this context, the aviation industry adopting the policy of pretending to be environmentalist has ignored or covered up the environmental impacts to escape the pressure of the climate crisis and continued to grow around the deregulation principle of neoliberalism. This situation, called greenwashing, has been well adopted by the aviation industry. This study deals with greenwashing, a strategic approach that the aviation industry has implemented against other environmental problems, especially climate crises. The study has revealed that the innovative projects of the aviation industry, such as electric airplanes, hydrogen-powered airplanes, biofuel studies, high-efficiency, are highly nonfunctional. In conclusion, the study has emphasized that the aviation industry is not as innocent as pretended; the attempts to hide the sector-based pollution effects are unrealistic, and the sector-related climate crisis continues to increase.

With the transition to neoliberalism, health has tended to be less regarded as a social obligation and become instead an individual responsibility. Hence, the issue of healthcare has gained a "health-economic" character by increasingly integrating health systems into the existing economic situation and market dynamics. Introduced in the 2000s, the Health Transformation Program (HTP) represents such an approach in Turkey. This article reports on field research carried out in Istanbul into the consequences of the HTP through a survey focusing on healthcare facility preferences and perceptions of the most critical problems of the healthcare system. The survey was carried out in 2019 with 5002 participants aged 25-65 using the face-to-face technique and frequency and Pearson chi-square analyses to summarise the findings. The privatisation trend is shown by public-toprivate comparisons of health expenditures, hospital beds and admissions to hospitals, while the shift toward private hospitals is mitigated by participant preferences for the public healthcare schema, which remains the central pillar of the system. This preference is mainly based on the economical services provided in public hospitals, while the shift to the private system is argued to be largely impelled by increased patient density in the public system resulting from the neoliberal logic of the HTP. In conclusion, the need for a new reform program that will invest in the public nature of the Turkish health system is identified and addressed.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to calculate the fuel consumption and emissions of carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxide (NOx) and hydrocarbons (HC) in the taxi-out period of aircraft at the International Diyarbakir Airport in 2018 and 2019. Design/methodology/approach Calculations were performed by determining the engine operating times in the taxi-out period with the flight data obtained from the airport authority. In the analyses, aircraft series and aircraft engine types were determined, and the Engine Exhaust Emission Databank of the International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO) were used for the calculation. Findings Total fuel consumption in the taxi-out period in 2018 and 2019 was calculated as 525.64 and 463.69 tons, respectively. In 2018, HC, CO and NOx emissions caused by fuel consumption were found to be 1,109, 10,668 and 2,339 kg, respectively. In 2019, the total HC, CO and NOx emissions released to the atmosphere during the taxi-out phase are 966, 9,391 and 2,126 kg, respectively. B737 Series aircraft have the largest share in total fuel consumption and pollutant emissions. Practical implications This study explains the importance of determining fuel consumption and pollutant emissions by considering engine operating times in the taxi-out period. The study provides aviation authorities with scientific methods to follow in calculating fuel consumption and emissions from aircraft operations. Originality/value The originality of this study is the calculation of fuel consumption and pollutant emissions by determining real-time engine running times in the taxi-out period. In addition, calculations were made with real engine operating times determined in the taxi-out period using real flight data.
