“…CSR was conceptualized by Bowen as an obligation to society, one that requires organizations to abide by management protocols conforming to societal values [12]. When discussing the concept of CSR, it is crucial to note that it refers to the aspect that deals with concerns regarding how communities influence others whether they are internal or external parts of the organization in matters such as the problem of many individuals being unemployed, poverty-stricken societies, and diversity in organizations [32]. Furthermore, most agrofuel crops require little labor, mainly in the form of short-term work clearing the land to make way for the plantation and some work at harvest time, thus, there are few long-term jobs for local communities [20].…”

“…The district authorities focused their land acquisition consultations on community elders/village headmen, who granted permission unwittingly without the full involvement of the wider community [17]. Such agreements are made in exchange with promises from the investor to improve employment and facilities in the area, but such pledges are hardly fulfilled, leading to resentment from the community [19].…”

“…With implementations of different sustainability-oriented practices, companies can present different levels of sustainability maturity, which corresponds to the level of sustainability involvement and implementation in their activities, in search of environmental, social and economic benefits (Vásquez et al, 2021;Zanin et al, 2021). Companies have as motivation for the inclusion of social and environmental practices in their routines the fact that with this comply with the legal regulations and requirements of the shareholders, besides showing the transparency of their activities, imitating competitors and complying with the environmental management system, but they face barriers such as the resistance of the company to changes, fear of showing negative actions, lack of incentives and commitment of the teams, lack of regulations and for not including social and environmental aspects in the strategic planning (Madime & Gonçalves, 2022).…”
