Determining Concrete Composition on Recycled Aggregates

Abstract: The problem of recycling of construction wastes is important and at the same time difficult to deal with. One of the possible ways of using the construction wastes coming from the demolition of concrete constructions is to re-use them in the production of construction concretes as recycled concrete aggregates RCA. Determining the concrete composition with the use of RCA demands conditioning its different from the natural aggregates NA physical and mechanical properties. In the procedure of projecting the concr… Show more

“…With reference to the results of ACV reported above, the heavy-weight aggregates had relatively low resistance to crushing. For example, ACV values of barite are higher than reported values of typical virgin rock aggregates and recycled aggregates (Koper et al 2015. This means the barite coarse aggregate had lower crushing resistance than typical virgin rock and recycled aggregates.…”

“…The rational concrete compositions must also provide a set of standardized properties, taking into account the manufacturing technology of structures and their operation features. Moreover, concrete composition design should also consider the possibility of using technogenic waste and its effect on the concrete properties [ 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 ]. The main material resource, the rational use of which characterizes, to a large extent, the concrete composition’s effectiveness, is cement [ 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 ].…”

“…On the other hand, the quality of the aggregate depends primarily on the origin and quality of the concrete from which it was obtained. Numerous researches preceding the introduction of RCA for concrete production have allowed to classify it in terms of quality and to formulate the requirements for their properties to ensure the quality of good concrete [3,4,5,6]. The formulation of qualitative requirements for aggregates is to ensure that the RCA used to produce the concrete will not significantly reduce its parameters.…”

“…Some of the methods are based on the aggregate properties determined by the Aggregate Crushing Value (ACV) [4] or the toughness of the aggregate determined in the Los Angeles abrasion test. Also used in such methods is the aggregate resistance to abrasion, denoted as Micro-Deval [8].…”
