“…The uroporphyrin values given above refer to urines in which ether soluble porphyrins were not extracted before the determination. In urines with small amounts of porphyrins the method of Dresel et al (5) was also used (values within brackets in Table VI) for the determination of uroporphyrin. In urines from eight patients studied 2 to 3 I/: years after the last phlebotomy, the uroporphyrin content determined according to Drssel et al (5) ranged from 0 to 124 rig124 h, and values within the normal range (0 to 25 pg/24 h) were encountered in four of them.…”

“…aliquot was extracted to yield an ethersoluble coproporphyrin fraction in 0.15 N-HCl, and a small, ether-insoluble fraction of uroporphyrin. The latter fraction was further extracted by cyclohexanone at pH 1.5. and finally taken into 0.5 N-HCl (Dresel, Rimington and Tooth, 1956). Apart from allowing the urine to stand for 24 hours after collection, no additional steps for conversion of porphyrinogens were undertaken (Watson, de Mello, Schwartz, Hawkinson and Bossenmaier, 1951;Zondag and van Kampen, 1956).…”
