Determination of Trace Elements in High-Purity Molybdenum by Solid-Phase Extraction/ICP-MS

Abstract: We attempted a simple pretreating method consisting of solid-phase extraction using bonded silica gel with benzenesulfonic acid (SCX) as the solid-phase sorbent to determine trace elements in pure molybdenum samples by means of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Molybdenum was anionized by adding hydrogen peroxide solution to a sample decomposed with acid, and separated from cation trace impurities that had been kept in the chemically bonded silica gel of the ion-exchange type. The target e… Show more

“…Therefore, treatment can be completed in a shorter period of time. In addition to the iron matrix, favorable results have been obtained for the separation of aluminum, 18) molybdenum, 19) and tungsten. 20) In this study, solid-phase extraction giving consideration to the environment is also applied as the separation method similarly to that reported previously to achieve added rapidity and simplicity of manipulations.…”

“…Residual tungsten in these solutions was quantified in each pH area using ICP-AES. In addition, although Ag was not examined using the fixed determination of the trace element in high-purity molybdenum of a previous report, 13) the recovery of Cr was 94%. Moreover, some elements, such as Tl, showed a different result from those described in this report, probably because of differences in pretreatment methods.…”

“…13) Carbamates such as sodium diethyldithiocarbamate were used for trace element determination in high-purity iron. They did not react with the iron, and a pH region in which only trace elements produced a complex was found.…”
