Apple seedlings from a greenhouse pot experiment, investigating the effects of copper (Cu) and peat amendments on crop performance growing on a Cuand potassium (K)-deficient soil, were characterized for a range of major and trace elements. Concentrations of barium (Ba), calcium (Ca), Cu, iron (Fe), K, magnesium (Mg), manganese (Mn), molybdenum (Mo), sodium (Na), rubidium (Rb), strontium (Sr), and zinc (Zn) in leaf and stem tissues were correlated with treatment and tissue. Addition of Cu, peat and the nature of the tissue had significant impacts on many element concentrations. Generally, increasing Cu resulted in elevated Ba, Fe, Mo, and Sr as well as Cu levels. The presence of peat resulted in reduced levels, generally in both leaf and stem, of Ba, Mg, Mn, Rb, and Zn and increased levels of Fe, K, and Mo. Finally, the vast majority of elemental concentrations were higher in leaf tissue rather than stem, with the exceptions of Na and Zn. The National Climate Change Adaptation Policy (NCCAPF) enabling framework in Mauritius has been designed to address key barriers such as lack of financing options, lack of institutional framework and low levels of adaptation technology transfer and aims to integrate and mainstream climate change into core development policies, strategies and plans of Mauritius The Capability Approach would ensure that social arrangements target at increasing people's capabilities and would consider indicators that reflect the importance of assessing the quality of processes rather than simply outcomes of policies and the significance of measures to enhance the ownership and participation of local communities in the management of their natural resources under integrated coastal zone management ICZM. The overall objective should be to develop climate compatible projects for vulnerable coastal regions. The paper reviews measures to strengthen coastal zone management facing climate change and natural disasters and to further improve natural disaster risk management in Mauritius in line with climate compatible development schemes and effective integrated coastal zone management of small islands states under the DPSIR Framework.

Abstract-In search for newer analytical techniques that can meet the growing trend in the world of elemental analysis, the Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) system is exploited. A cursory look at the driving forces behind this analytical tool and its use in series with other analytical tools with reference to some literature reports has been critically reviewed. Aspects of maintenance of the ICP system and metal speciation were also highlighted.
