Determination of trace amounts of boron in geological samples with carminic acid after extraction with 2-ethylhexane-1,3-diol

Abstract: Trace a m o u n t s of boron a r e determined in geochemical samples spectrophotometrically with carminic acid after prior extraction with 2-ethylhexane-1,3-diol. In this work this method has been tested on 14 international reference samples.

“…Thin sections of the irradiated samples were prepared, in order to assign the detector foils to corresponding minerals of the samples. Quantitative boron analysis of whole rock samples (Tables 1 and 2) was performed spectrophotometrically with carminic acid after extraction with 2ethylhexane-1,3-diol (Troll and Sauerer, 1985). Lithium concentrations have been measured by standard flame photometry.…”

“…Zolotov et al (98) reviewed liquidliquid extraction coupled with spectrophotometric and other techniques in inorganic analysis. The determination of boron in geological materials has been reported with a 2-ethylhexane-l,3-diol extraction and carminic acid reagent by Troll and Sauerer (99). Germanium has been determined in ores and zinc hydrometallurgical processes after separation with ferric oxide and heptane extraction (100).…”
