Determination of Thiamine in Pharmaceutical Preparations by Reverse Phase Liquid Chromatography Without Use of Organic Solvent

Abstract: A novel green aqueous mobile phase modified with room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) was employed in the absence of volatile organic solvents or ion-pairing reagents to analyze thiamine, a very polar compound, by reverse phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC). Due to its strongly hydrophilic nature, thiamine was eluted near the column dead time (t 0 ) using a mobile phase without adding RTILs or ion-pairing reagents, even if a 100% aqueous mobile phase, which has weak elution power under rev… Show more

“…Some applications of ILs as mobile phase additives in RP-HPLC have been reported for the analysis of pharmaceutical compounds [ 125 , 126 , 127 , 128 , 129 , 130 ]. Different pharmaceutical compounds were analyzed such as β-blockers [ 125 ], antidepressants [ 126 ], β-lactam antibiotics [ 127 ], thiamine (vitamin B1) [ 128 ], urazamide [ 129 ], and ephedrines [ 130 ]. Among these, Ruiz-Angel et al [ 125 ] carried out a comparative study of the effect of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([BMIM][BF4]) and triethylamine (TEA) added to the mobile phase on the analysis of seven β-blockers in RP-HPLC.…”

“…Vitamin B 1 is mixed with pyrrole monomer before electropolymerysation process that vitamin B 1 is at polipirola matrix. Trapped vitamin B 1 in polipirola occur through hydrogen interaction between the N-H group at the pyrrole with O-H and N-H group in vitamin B 1 . Following that, vitamin B 1 is extracted with a porogenic solvent in order to obtain moleculary imprinted polymer (MIP) on the surface of CPE.…”

“…beriberi [2], and epilepsy [3]. Many of analytical methods are available for the determination of vitamin B 1 either alone or in conjunction with various drugs in pharmaceutical formulations and biological fluids using calorimetric [4], spectrophotometry [5][6][7], electrochemistry [8], fluorimetric [9], chromatography [10][11][12][13][14][15], chemiluminescence [16]. Potentiometric methods are more productive in innovations in view of the more possibilities for the design of the electrodes that can easily be converted into flow-through electrodes via passed in the flow cell.…”
