The problem of finding an analytical solution of some families of Kepler transcendental equation is studied in some detail, by the Special Trans Functions Theory – STFT. Thus, the STFT mathematical approach in the form of STFT iterative methods with a novel analytical solutions are presented. Structure of the STFT solutions, numerical results and graphical simulations confirm the validity of the basic principle of the STFT. In addition, the obtained analytical results are compared with the calculated values of other analytical methods for alternative proving its significance. Undoubtedly, the proposed novel analytical approach implies qualitative improvement in comparison with conventional numerical and analytical methods.

Currently, the multijunction solar cell structure gives the highest efficiency for photovoltaic solar cells. In this study, tandem, triple, and quadruple junction multijunction solar cell structures that include an InP subcell on InP substrate were investigated. A model that can calculate both the voltage-current characteristics and external quantum efficiency was demonstrated. The model gave fitted results with the experimental data for a single junction GaAs solar cell and a tandem solar cell that provides efficiency higher than 30%. The model was used to optimize the lattice-matched AlAsSb/InP tandem, AlAsSb/InP/InGaAsP triple, and AlAsSb/InP/InGaAsP/GaAsSb quadruple junction solar cell designs and the highest efficiencies obtained for these cells were 29.9%, 36.69%, and 42.79%, respectively, under AM1.5 spectrum without any sun concentration. This lattice-matched quadruple junction structure gives the opportunity of having high efficiency without wafer bonding.

IntroductionThe basic idea behind modelling a solar cell is to obtain the values of the operating parameters for the device. To that extent, the most popular of the existing models is the Shockley five-parameter model in which the equation governing the behaviour of the cell is formulated as a transcendental exponential equation involving five parameters, which are I L , the light-generated current, I s , the reverse saturation current, R s , the series resistance, R sh , the shunt resistance and T, the operating temperature.In the conventional approach to solving the fiveparameter model equation, it is often assumed that the light-generated current is most approximately equal to the short-circuit current. However, Da Rosa (2009, 552-553) has pointed out that in the presence of a large series resistance, there is a significant difference between the light-generated current and the short-circuit current due to the conversion of noticeable incident photon energy to heat.Different approaches to the solution of the equation have been developed. Several of these approaches have proved somewhat cumbersome (Hart 1982, 281-288; Lasnier 1990, 65-76). This paper discusses an alternative formulation of the model. This formulation leads to a relationship which allows an easy determination of the light-generated current.
