Determination of the optical properties of Intralipid 20% over a broadband spectrum

Abstract: The aim of this study is to characterize the optical properties of Intralipid20% using two methods modified Kubelka-Munk model and Mie theory and to test the applicability of a modified Kubelka-Munk model with a single integrating sphere system over a wide wavelength range 470 – 725nm. Scattering coefficients which estimated by these two methods were matched and the absorption effect was observed and quantified. Finally, the imaginary part of the refractive index was estimated besides scattering, absorption an… Show more

“…Recently, this approach has been modified to overcome the refractive index mismatch between the sample and holder, and the thickness does not exceed the transport length [7]. e present method has been investigated with a single integrating sphere system over visible and N-IR wavelength range on biological tissues and optical phantoms [7,8]. On the other hand, diffusion approximation has been considered as an approximate solution of the radiative transfer equation for semi-infinite and high diffusive medium for collimated incident light [9,10].…”

“…The beam from a fibre-coupled laser (0405L-13A, Integrated Optics, Lithuania) was guided through a convex lens ( = 10 cm) and collimated via a 1.5 mm pinhole to the sample of interest. Diffuse reflectance and transmittance were measured using a USB spectrophotometer (USB4000 FL, Ocean Optics, U.S.A) [11]. To evaluate collimated transmittance, spectrophotometric transmission spectroscopy was used.…”
