Determination of the Bending Moment of a Dowel and Tenon Joint on Window Profile IV 92 of a Wooden Window

Abstract: This study deals with calculating and comparing the bending moments of two types of corner joints for commercially produced wooden sashes. The triple tenon and mortise joint was compared to a dowel joint on the sash of a window profile IV 92, made of spruce glued laminated timber. On the testing machine, the maximum force in the angular plane of a window sash under compression or tension mode was applied, and the measured values were converted to the bending moments. A significant difference between the bendin… Show more

“…For instance, thick parts in solid wood furniture rarely have problems, while thin parts with the same tree species and moisture content are prone to cracking, joint pulling, and other problems. The problems caused by the hygroscopicity of wood of different tree species and different thicknesses have been studied (Neimsuwan et al 2008;Fernandez et al 2014;Podlena et al 2017;Murr and Lackner 2018;Kalita et al 2019). There has been research on the effects of different tree species and samples of different specifications (Skaar 1988;Ma et al 2010;Fernandez et al 2014;Yang et al 2018;Majka et al 2019;Mvondo et al 2021).…”

“…For example, thick parts in solid wood furniture rarely have problems, while thin plate parts of the same tree species and moisture content are prone to cracking, pulling, and other problems. Therefore, the problems caused by the hygroscopicity of wood of different tree species and different thicknesses have attracted the attention of some scholars (Neimsuwan et al 2008;Podlena et al 2017;Murr and Lackner 2018).…”

“…There are numerous factors that affect the mechanical properties of loaded profileadhesive joints. The bending moment capacity of the window joints shows a statistically significant difference between bending moments for the tenon and dowel joints, and the absence of difference between the compression and tension for both joint types (Podlena et al 2017). The factors that affect the moment capacity, and the main effects and interaction factors affecting the moment capacity for both compression and tension loads of the mortise and tenon joints have been investigated (Kasal et al 2015).…”
