Determination of Stress Concentration Factors of a Steam Turbine Rotor Using Finite Element Analysis

Abstract: Stress Concentration Factors are significant in machine design as it gives rise to localized stress when any change in the design of surface or abrupt change in the cross section occurs. Almost all machine components and structural members contain some form of geometrical or microstructural discontinuities. These discontinuities are very dangerous and lead to failure. So, it is very much essential to analyze the stress concentration factors for critical applications like Turbine Rotors. In this paper Finite El… Show more

“…Under power plant operational conditions, a method of evaluating remnant turbine life is discussed. [2] In this paper, the stress concentration factor (SCF) in a steam turbine rotor was investigated using a finite element model because it is important in the design of geometrically complex such as a steam turbine rotor. ANSYS workbench was used to discretize and fine mesh the model using a two-dimensional ax symmetric element.…”

“…Diskontinuitas diameter tersebut merupakan peningkat tegangan yang bersifat lokal atau stress raiser yang dapat memicu kegagalan pada poros [9]. Pada area-area ini, terdapat konsentrasi tegangan yang ditentukan berdasarkan grafik konsentrasi tegangan baik akibat beban torsi (Kts) ataupun beban lentur (Kt) sebagai acuan untuk menentukan daerah mana saja pada poros yang berpotensi menjadi area tegangan maksimum [10].…”

“…The glass electrode was equilibrated in a well stirred PG-water mixture containing an inert electrolyte. The effect of variations in asymmetry potential, liquid junction potential, activity coefficient, sodium ion error and dissolved carbon dioxide on the response of glass electrode were accounted for in the form of correction factor (Babu et al, 2001) which was computed from the experimental and simulated acid-base titration data calculated by SCPHD program (Rao, 1989). A correction factor was applied to the pH meter dial readings to account for the solvent effect on the pH.…”
