Determination of Rifampicin by Peroxomonosulfate‐Cobalt(II) Chemiluminescence System

Abstract: Rifampicin can enhance the chemiluminescence (CL) of peroxomonosulfate-cobalt(II) system, and the CL intensity is strongly dependent on the rifampicin concentrations. Based on this phenomenon, a rapid and sensitive flow injection CL method was developed for the determination of rifampicin. The relative CL intensity was linear with the rifampicin concentration over the range of 5×10 -8 to 1×10 -6 g•mL -1 (r=0.9991), the detection limit was 7×10 -9 g•mL -1 (S/N=3), and the relative standard deviation was 2.7% fo… Show more

“…Several methods have been reported for detecting RIF, such as high performance liquid chromatography [4], real-time polymerase chain reaction [5], chemiluminescence [6] and fluorescence spectroscopy [7][8][9]. Although these methods are generally quite sensitive and accurate, they are often costly, technically complex, time-consuming, and do not allow high throughput analysis.…”

“…In addition to Ru(bipy) 3 3+ , potassium permanganate, Ag(III), Ni(IV) and Cu(III) complexes discussed in the preceding sections, some other oxidants such as N ‐bromosuccinimide , hydrogen peroxide , peroxomonosulfate , potassium ferricyanide , Ce(IV) , sodium hypochlorite and peroxynitrite were exploited in direct CL assays of pharmaceuticals (Table ). In this context, ingenious CL approaches for the assessment of imipramine and nitrofurazone were reported in pharmaceutical products and biological fluids based upon their reaction with N ‐bromosuccinimide and hydrogen peroxide.…”

“…A solution comprising peroxomonosulfate/Co(II) is another interesting oxidizing reagent that was successfully used for direct CL determination of drugs, namely folic acid and rifampicin . The origin of the observed CL phenomenon of the folic acid/rifampicin –HSO 5 – –Co 2+ system was ascribed to excited products generated by reaction of the drugs with the main reactive species, such as SO 5 • − , SO 4 • − and • OH, produced by the HSO 5 ‐ /Co 2+ system . It is perhaps relevant to mention that the method reported for the determination of folic acid possessed interesting analytical figures of merit, especially high selectivity, which made it possible for use in biological fluids as well as drugs .…”

“…Notably, most Er values did not exceed 5% with the average relative errors (Aer) of −0.67/1.82% and RSDs of 3.69/1.70%, which shows that the PEC sensor could be successfully used in real-life applications.
