Determination of reference intervals for urinary steroid profiling using a newly validated GC-MS/MS method

Abstract: We developed a new GC-MS/MS method for USP which is applicable for high throughput analysis. Widely applicable age and sex specific reference intervals for 33 metabolites and their diagnostic ratios have been defined. In addition to age and gender, USP reference intervals should be adjusted for OCP use.

“…Further normative data of 67 components of the neonatal metabolome (to 1 year of life) has been reported by Dhayat et al [ 73 ], who also reported studies discussing the influence of the alternative androgen pathway in young infants [ 74 ]. Normative data (obtained by GC/MS/MS) for the full age range from newborn to adult was reported by de Jong et al [ 58 ]. All these investigators essentially used the common MO-TMS derivative method.…”

“…We used LC‐MS/MS to determine the main metabolites of cortisol and cortisone where the gold standard to measure these metabolites is GC‐MS . However, our assay is very well developed and validated . Therefore, we do not think that this will influence our results.…”
