“…It is well-known that SPE materials decide the sensitivity and selectivity of the SPE-based method. And a great deal of new SPE adsorbents have been explored for the preconcentration of REEs, including chelating resin [19], 2,6-diacetylpyridine functionalized Amberlite XAD-4 [20], graphene oxide-TiO 2 composite [21], acetylacetone-modified silica gel [22], oxidized multiwalled carbon nanotubes [23], polystyrene grafted with diethylene-triaminetetraacetic groups [24] etc. Besides, biomaterials have attained special interest due to their attractive features, such as easy-to-get, low cost, high efficiency, mild operation condition and ecologically-safe [25][26][27].…”

“…Because the crustal abundance of REEs is very low, pre-concentration procedures such as solvent extraction, co-precipitation or ionexchange separation are used by some workers to achieve a lower limit of detection (20)(21)(22)(23)(24). Fudyunina et al (25) determined REEs in rock samples using lithium metaborate fusion followed by the pre-concentration on Pol-DETATA, and reported less than 15% difference between the certified and observed values. The present authors used a mixture of lithium metaborate and lithium tetraborate which reduces the melting point of the fusion mixture and also dissolves the acidic and basic oxides easily (26).…”

“…Sorption preconcentration [1][2][3][4][5][6][7] allows reduction of the detection limits of elements and elimination of the influence of matrix components of natural waters for their subsequent determination by multielement method such as inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry [1][2][3] and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) [4][5][6].…”

“…Various sorbents have been proposed for sorption preconcentration of metal ions: synthetic polymers based [2][3][4]8], activated carbon based [5] and inorganic oxide based [7,[9][10][11]. Special attention should be paid to the silica-based sorbents because the matrices of these sorbents are widely used and available.…”
