Determination of phthalate esters in soil using a quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe method followed by GC–MS

Abstract: A quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe procedure was designed to extract pesticide residues from fruits and vegetables with a high percentage of water. It has not been used extensively for the extraction of phthalate esters from sediments, soils, and sludges. In this work, this procedure was combined with gas chromatography with mass spectrometry to determine 16 selected phthalate esters in soil. The extraction efficiency of the samples was improved by ultrasonic extraction and dissolution of the so… Show more

“…DEP has been previously identified as a constituent in particulate phase mainstream tobacco smoke . Additionally, DEP has been found in environmental matrices such as soil, surface water, and house dust. It is listed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) as a priority substance with endocrine disrupting action . DEP was found to be a weak AhR activator in H4IIE-luc rat hepatoma cells .…”

“…The results presented in Table 2 indicate that the nanocomposite applied in the direct SPME-GC method has comparable analytical performance and extraction time and better extraction recovery in compared with other similar papers [ [39] , [40] , [41] , [42] , [43] , [44] ].…”

“…This methodology has also the advantage of generating potentially high recoveries and low detection limits [27]. It has already been employed to extract other compounds, especially pesticides, from soils and it is easy to adapt and optimize [28,29].…”
