Phthalate esters (PAEs) are endocrine-disrupting chemicals that pose potential risks to human health. Water and sediments are crucial carriers and storage media for the migration and transformation of PAEs. In this study, six congeners of PAEs were measured in water and sediment samples to elucidate their spatial distribution, congener profiles, and ecological risks in the middle-lower Hanjiang River during the wet and dry seasons. The concentration of the Σ6PAEs ranged from 592 to 2.75 × 103 ng/L with an average of 1.47 × 103 ng/L in surface water, while the concentration of the Σ6PAEs ranged from 1.12 × 103 to 6.61 × 103 ng/g with an average of 2.69 × 103 ng/g in sediments. In general, PAE concentrations were ranked as sediment > water, and dry season > wet season. DEHP and DBP were the dominant PAEs in the middle-lower Hanjiang River in surface water and sediments. SPSS analysis showed that dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in surface water was significantly correlated with the concentration of DBP, DEHP, and the ∑6PAEs, while organic matter (OM) was significantly correlated with the concentration of the ∑6PAEs in sediments. The concentrations of PAEs were irregularly distributed and varied significantly in surface water and sediments. Compared with other regions at home and abroad, the pollution levels of surface water and sediments in the middle-lower Hanjiang River were relatively low and not enough to have a negative impact on the local water’s ecological environment. However, the supervision of land-based discharge should still be strengthened.

Due to the waste problems associated with plastic packaging and the desire to reduce fossil fuel-based packaging, many retailers and brand owners have set ambitious targets to reduce the use of non-renewable polymers. One aspect of this trend has been an increase in the use of bio-coated boards as an alternative to boards coated with traditional petroleum-based polymers such as PE and PET. This paper identifies the polymers used in a number of commercial boards coated with conventional or biopolymers and compares their performance in terms of the moisture vapour barrier, sealing behaviour, and their ability to be folded without cracking. It was found that PLA was the biopolymer used to coat the two bioboards studied, and while it compares favourably to PE and PET coated boards in terms of heat sealing capabilities, it has potential conversion issues due to it’s brittleness and has inferior moisture barrier properties compared to traditional petroleum-based coated boards.

Plastic is considered one of the most significant industrial inventions of this era due to its excellent properties, which lend well to many manufacturing applications. These days, there are tons of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) waste products that are generated around the world. This waste presents a real environmental hazard because PET is not biodegradable. This paper delineates the physical and chemical properties of PET to justify its use as an additive and aggregate replacement in the manufacture of asphalt mixtures. Furthermore, discusses details of PET-modified asphalt mixture by a dry and wet process with sufficient information to better understand the mixture. Several critical matters are investigated, such as asphalt modification to increase resistance to fatigue, rutting deformation, and moisture sensitivity. These results are important for determining the factors that significantly improve pavement mixture characteristics. The findings show that the addition of PET to asphalt mixtures yielded very promising results. PET enhanced the mechanical properties, the durability, and the long-term sustainability of the pavement. Finally, using PET waste as an additive in asphalt mixtures could serve as an environmentally friendly method to dispose of PET waste while simultaneously producing high-quality pavements.
