Determination of Pb(II) and Cu(II) by Electrothermal Atomic Absorption Spectrometry after Preconcentration by a Schiff Base Adsorbed on Surfactant Coated Alumina

Abstract: 1,2-Bis(salicylidenamino)ethane loaded onto sodium dodecyl sulfate-coated alumina was used as a new chelating sorbent for the preconcentration of traces of Pb(II) and Cu(II) prior to atomic absorption spectrometric determination. The influence of pH, flow rates of sample and eluent solutions, and foreign ions on the recovery of Pb(II) and Cu(II) by this sorbent has been studied. The retained ions were eluted with 4 mol•L nitric acid and determined by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS). The d… Show more

“…A modified Scott-type spray chamber cooled at 4 1C, without the nebulizer in place, was used as the gas-liquid separator and alkaline sodium borohyride employed in the production of gaseous Ge hydrides. The method was sufficiently precise, 0.2% (2 sd) for 74 Ge/ 70 Ge, for studies of the natural isotopic fractionation of Ge by physicochemical processes.…”

“…138 The procedure employed a 73 Ge- 70 Ge double spike to correct any analytical fractionation, in combination with HG to extract Ge from the sample matrix. Natural environmental fractionation was evaluated using the 74 Ge/ 72 Ge isotope ratio. The method showed an excellent external standard reproducibility of 0.4% over the course of several months and a LOQ of 2 ng of Ge.…”

“…The method is distinguished by its simplicity and rapidity in comparison with the other conventional techniques such as solvent extraction. Synthetic and natural sorbents have been used as solid phase extractor for the preconcentration and separation of heavy metal ions (Fu and Wang, 2011;Kosobucki et al, 2008;Tehrani et al, 2006). In addition, biosorbents serve as effective and inexpensive support materials for solid phase extraction studies (Ofomaja et al, 2010;Baytak and Turker, 2005;Godlewska-Zyłkiewicz, 2004).…”
