Determination of Orthophosphate in Aqueous Solutions Containing Labile Organic and Inorganic Phosphorus Compounds

Abstract: A simple and precise colorimetric method of determining orthophosphate in aqueous solutions containing labile organic and inorganic P compounds is described. It involves a rapid formation of molybdenum blue color by the reaction of orthophosphate with molybdate ions in the presence of ascorbic acid‐trichloroacetic acid and citrate‐arsenite reagents and complexation of the excess molybdate ions to prevent further formation of blue color from the phosphate derived from hydrolysis of the acid‐labile P compounds. … Show more

“…Inorganic P of the alkaline extracts of NaHCO 3 and NaOH was determined by the method proposed by Dick & Tabatabai (1977). In these alkaline extracts, total P was determined by digestion with ammonium persulfate + sulfuric acid in an autoclave.…”

“…After the extractions, the remaining soil was oven-dried and subjected to digestion with H 2 SO 4 + H 2 O 2 + MgCl 2 (Residual-P). The Pi contained in the alkaline extracts NaHCO 3 and NaOH was determined by the spectrophotometric method proposed by DICK & TABATABAI (1977). In these alkaline extracts, total P was determined after digestion with ammonium persulfate + sulfuric acid in an autoclave (USEPA, 1971), and Po was computed as the difference between total P and Pi.…”

“…O P inorgânico extraído pela resina foi determinado conforme a metodologia de Murphy & Riley (1962). Determinou-se, no extrato alcalino (NaHCO 3 ), o P inorgânico, pelo método de Dick & Tabatabai (1977) e o P total por digestão com persulfato de amônio mais ácido sulfúrico em autoclave (USEPA, 1971). O P orgânico deste extrato resultou da diferença entre P total e P inorgânico extraído por bicarbonato.…”
